While riding is great exercise there are many unmounted strengthening & balance building exercises we can work with riders on. These are great to learn and put into practice any time there are reasons that may prohibit riding such as bad weather or injury to the horse. In general learning the correct way to incorporate unmounted skill work into your program as an athlete will ultimately put you ahead of the game and give you better results when riding.
Be honest..do you take time to stretch out before your rides? Do you even know correct stretching exercises for a rider's best pre ride workout? If not we can work with you on doing exercises that can help you recover from injury or just help with general body fitness maintenance that is important for all athletes!
As a rider it is so important to feel that you can ride with an independent seat and hands in order to allow your horse to move freely without having to carry extra tension or unevenness. But if you are not taking time to work on core strengthening exercises without having to work about steering or controlling the horse, then you really may be missing out on truly developing your core strength.
